The Focus RS500 is powered by a 2.5-liter 5-cylinder Duratec RS engine that produces 350 PS at 6,000 rpm which is 15 percent more power than the standard Focus RS and 460 Nm of maximum torque between 2,500 to 4,500 rpm. The engine from the standard Focus RS has been upgraded to deliver significantly more top-end and mid-range power but without compromising the base engine’s strength and responsiveness at lower revs.
The engine has been upgraded with a revised cylinder head gasket, ultra-durable metal sprayed cylinder bores, revised pistons and new connecting rods.Other engine performance upgrades include larger air-to-air intercooler to deliver a cooler, denser charge, a larger air filter box for increased airflow, larger diameter exhaust downpipe and an uprated fuel pump along with an updated software calibration.
With the increase of power, the Ford Focus RS500 sprints from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.6 seconds (0-60mph 5.4sec, 0-100mph 12.2sec) with the top speed of 263 km/h (165 mph) similar to the standard Focus RS.The Focus RS500 uses the same chassis as the standard Focus RS featuring the unique ‘RevoKnuckle’ front suspension design and a Quaife helical limited slip differential to deliver responsive steering, outstanding traction and a minimum of unwanted torque steer.
The car also uses the same high-performance braking system and the same 19-inch wheels wrapped with 235/35 R19 tires from the standard Focus RS. At the exterior, the Focus RS500 features a unique matt black ‘foil’ paint finish (developed in partnership with 3M) combined with metallic black alloy wheels and the gloss black finish of the trapezoidal lower front grille and splitter, twin-blade rear spoiler and the rear venture which manages airflow beneath the rear of the car.
Other features include small flashes around the RS500, including the red brake callipers, blue RS badges and the special blue and red RS500 badge on the tailgate.Inside, the 2011 Ford Focus RS500 features individually-numbered metal plaque, and by a unique carbon-effect finish, a special red colour scheme, notably on the stitching of the leather trim on the steering wheel, door trim and gear lever gaiter, and on the floor mats and optional bespoke Recaro front sport seats in full red leather.
